Discoveries
Think through ideas with AI before creating tickets — guided, code-aware, and fast.
What is a Discovery?
A Discovery is a guided conversation that helps you turn a fuzzy idea into a clear plan before creating any tickets. Instead of staring at a blank input box, you answer a few quick questions and Forge shapes your idea into a structured document you can act on.
Discoveries are designed for PMs, stakeholders, and anyone who knows what they want but needs help articulating it.
How it works
- Click the Forge button in the bottom-right corner of any page
- Pick a repo (optional) — connecting a repo lets Forge understand your product and give smarter suggestions
- Answer questions — Forge asks 1-5 questions depending on how clear your idea is. Each question comes with suggested answers you can tap, or type your own
- Review the summary — Forge generates a structured Discovery document with your idea, outcomes, audience, and constraints
- Save — your Discovery is stored and visible in the Discoveries list
Code-aware suggestions
When you connect a repo, Forge reads your codebase and weaves that knowledge into the conversation. It might say things like:
"Your app already has a settings page with name and email. Are you expanding that, or building something new?"
This is the key difference from generic AI tools — Forge knows your product. No file paths or technical jargon, just plain language about what exists and what doesn't.
What can I do with a saved Discovery?
- Import into a ticket — in the ticket creation wizard, choose "From Discovery" to pre-fill the ticket with your Discovery's content
- Edit anytime — click "Edit Discovery" to reopen the conversation and refine your answers
- Delete — remove Discoveries you no longer need
Free vs Pro
All users get 3 free Discoveries per month. Pro users get unlimited Discoveries.
Your quota is shown in the Discoveries list view. When you've used all 3, you'll be prompted to upgrade.
Tips
- Be specific in your first answer — the more detail you give upfront, the fewer follow-up questions Forge needs to ask
- Connect a repo — code-aware suggestions are significantly better than generic ones
- Use chips — the suggested answer chips are tailored to your repo and previous answers. Tap one to move fast, or type your own for precision
- Skip ahead — if Forge has enough context, it will offer to wrap up early. You can always add more detail later by editing
Privacy
Discoveries are private by default. Only you can see your Discoveries. Team sharing is coming in a future update.
